Take to the waters at one of the Peak District's national reservoirs and you'll find a great way to escape the hustle and bustle of daily life.
Dovestone Sailing Club is right on your doorstep and they welcome both families and individuals. The reservoir istelf provides ideal sailing waters for all levels of ability. Whether you're taking your first steps afloat or want to develop your skills, they have a dedicated team of instructors and coaches to look after you. You don't need your own boat - all equipment is provided. The club is a RYA recognised teaching establishment for dinghy sailing and powerboating. Trainers are also authorised to carry out tests for the International Certificates of Competence.
Sailing Clubs also operate from other reservoirs in the Peak District, including nearby Torside Reservoir, Hollingworth Lake, Combs Reservoir and Carsington Waters - simply follow the links here.
For all-round family fun, why not visit Hollingworth Activity Centre? Only 13 miles from Dovestone park, you can enjoy windsurfing, rowing boats, sailing and windsurfing.
Fishing
Fly fishing has been introduced locally at Yeoman Hey Reservoir adjacent to Dovestone's Reservoir, with tickets available for both catch-and-return or take home - details available through our links. Other local fly fishing facilities can be found at Arnfield Fly Fishery, Glossop.
Course fishing takes place locally along the Saddleworth Canal which can be easily found at the side of Tesco in Greenfield running up towards Uppermill, and day tickets are available. In addition, nearby Diggle Angling club offers course fishing on Dowry and New Year Reservoirs again day tickets are available. Slightly further afield Lady Bower fisheries offer a wide range of fishing opportunities including bank, boat and float tube fishing. see the links for further details
